Many cancer patients will require radiation therapy as part of their cancer treatment program. This treatment is overseen by a radiation oncologist, a physician who specializes in using radiation to treat cancer.
Central Maine Medical Center offers this service at The Cynthia A. Rydholm Cancer Treatment Center, which has state-of-the-art radiation therapy services.
Our skilled radiation oncologists provide a variety of treatment options for cancer patients, including: external beam radiation therapy; prostate bracytherapy (radioactive seed implants); and intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for precise treatments of several types of cancer. The Center also has a superficial therapy unit which is used to treat patients who have skin cancers.
