Breastfeeding Course

CMMC Offers Classes to Help New Moms Learn About Breastfeeding

Lactation consultants from the Special Delivery Family Birthing Center at CMMC teach breastfeeding classes, to help new moms who may be anxious or have questions about the process.

Because CMMC is a “Baby-Friendly” hospital (just one of 5 in Maine), we are able to offer these classes free! As a “Baby-Friendly” hospital, we support and encourage breastfeeding because of the health and emotional benefits it gives both baby and Mom.

In class, you will learn the basics of breastfeeding including:

  • Breast anatomy
  • Establishing and maintaining milk production
  • Nursing positions
  • Latch-on techniques
  • How to be confident that your baby is getting enough milk
  • Resources available to breastfeeding mothers.
The 2.5-hour class gives participants an opportunity for discussion and questions.

Expectant moms are encouraged to bring their partner or support person so they may learn how to be helpful during the breastfeeding learning process.
